Combining espionage with social networking, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has introduced a Facebook app to promote Sony Pictures home video release Salt.

The Compromise Your Friend app uses Facebook Connect to retrieve images of friends, who then can be outed as spies in a mock newscast, using real scenes from the film. To access the app, visit www.facebook.com/SaltMovie.

“In a year that started with real Russian spies and ended with WikiLeaks posting classified information, we are talking about espionage more than anytime since the Cold War ended, “ said Brian Harris, creative director at Bradley and Montgomery, who conceived and built the app on behalf of SPHE. “How hard must it be to be a spy in the age of Facebook? We thought the idea of outing a Facebook friend as a spy — with, of course, some humorous touches — would be a fun way to celebrate the DVD/Blu-ray release of Salt.”

Salt, which grossed $118.3 million in the United States, currently is available as a deluxe unrated edition DVD and Blu-ray that offers featurettes and alternate endings.
